Our History
60 years of problem solving
1960s
The Beginning of an Integrated Approach. Problem Solving & Testing Era
Founded in 1963 as a division of Douglas Engineering, Vibro-Acoustics was built on Frank Guenther's vision that noise and vibration challenges should be solved using an integrated systems approach. By combining acoustics, aerodynamics, and engineering expertise, the company focused on diagnosing, testing, and resolving complex noise control problems.
Late 1960s
Advancing Acoustic Testing. Building Canada's Leading Independent Lab
Vibro-Acoustics established its second-generation acoustic-aerodynamic laboratory, becoming the largest independent facility of its kind in Canada. The lab supported both in-house product development and testing services for HVAC and architectural manufacturers.
1967
Driving Product Innovation. Setting New Industry Standards
As demand for advanced noise control solutions grew, Vibro-Acoustics introduced innovative products including high transmission loss silencer walls and elbow silencers, reinforcing its position as an industry leader.
1971
Joining Burgess Industries. Expanding Technical Expertise
Vibro-Acoustics was acquired by Burgess Industries, founded by Dr. Burgess, a pioneer in silencer technology. The acquisition combined Burgess' product innovations with Vibro-Acoustics' application engineering expertise, strengthening capabilities in complete noise control systems.
1980s Expansion Era
Growth Through Manufacturing. Expanding Across North America
The acquisition of BVA Manufacturing Ltd. enabled Vibro-Acoustics to manufacture closer to project sites while supporting an expanding network of licensed partners. This improved project delivery, reduced costs, and strengthened customer collaboration.
1980s End-Result Guarantee
Performance You Can Trust. Introducing the End-Result Guarantee
Through its renowned Lay-In Service, Vibro-Acoustics began offering an End-Result Guarantee—providing customers with confidence that every engineered noise control solution would perform as designed in real-world applications.
1995
A World First. NVLAP Accredited Testing Facility
Vibro-Acoustics became the world's first NVLAP-accredited laboratory for silencer testing (Lab Code: 100424-0), setting a new global benchmark for independent acoustic performance testing.
Late 1990s
New Leadership, Continued Growth. Expanding Our Reach Across North America
As founder Frank Guenther retired, Brian Guenther assumed the role of President, carrying forward the company's commitment to engineering excellence, innovation, and customer-focused solutions. During this period, Vibro-Acoustics also expanded its manufacturing footprint with a new facility in Nevada, increasing production capacity and strengthening support for its growing North American customer base.
2000s
Expanding Our Solutions. Introducing Vibration Isolation Systems
Building on decades of engineering expertise, Vibro-Acoustics launched its Vibration Isolation and Restraint Systems division, delivering innovative, labor-saving solutions for engineers, contractors, and building owners.
2014
Becoming Part of Swegon. A New Chapter of Global Growth
Vibro-Acoustics joined the Swegon Group, part of Latour, bringing together world-class expertise in indoor climate systems and noise control. The partnership expanded Swegon's presence in North America while preserving Vibro-Acoustics' engineering-driven approach.
2017
Continuing Strong Leadership. Jeff Bayley Named President
After three decades of leadership, Brian Guenther retired and Jeff Bayley became President of Vibro-Acoustics and Swegon North America, continuing the company's tradition of innovation and customer service.
2023
A New Home for Continued Growth. Expanding Our Manufacturing and Innovation
In 2023, Vibro-Acoustics relocated its office and manufacturing operations to a new, purpose-built facility in Ajax, Ontario. The expanded location provides significantly more production capacity, improved operational efficiency, and modern workspaces designed to support future growth. With enhanced manufacturing capabilities and greater collaboration between engineering, production, and customer support teams, the new facility positions Vibro-Acoustics to better serve customers while continuing to deliver industry-leading noise and vibration control solutions.
